The Damage of Sin Shaming
Have you noticed the level of sin shaming in the world? It’s on a high rise and the effects of it comes so close to murder. It breaks and shakes the spirits of many causing them to wax cold and comes short of encouraging and building one another up (1 Thessalonians 5-11). This insensitive sin shaming pushes many away from the body of Christ and many completely away from God. We have anointed and appointed ourselves as God as we take a seat on His throne of grace and judge the sins of others as we overlook our own (See Matthew 7:5). We have deceived ourselves into believing that one sin is bigger than the other when all sin stinks in the nostrils of God. I guess the question is, how do we get back on a level plain and advertise sympathy and empathy as much as we advertise the judgement of sin in others? How do we get to the place of loving one another in spite of sin? God demonstrates this love on a level that we will never understand. He says in His Word, “Nothing can separate of from the love of God. Neither death, nor life, nor angels, or principalities.” That’s the love of a Father who lives and breathes grace and mercy, but not many have been introduced to Him. We have been introduced to an angry Father that has no sympathy or empathy for our many out of control ways. A liar, a thief, a murderer, a molester, a hypocrite, and so forth are all under His grace. The same grace that sent His Son Jesus to die for our sins. The same Son that saved us from the laws of sin while holding an umbrella of grace and mercy to cover us from the wrath of the old testament. His Son Jesus knew of our many sins that we would commit from day to day and He also knew of the sin shaming that would push many away and for that He shed His blood. No one is exempt from sin because we all fall short of His Glory. Remember that sin shaming doesn’t heal, it doesn’t correct, it doesn’t love, and it has absolutely no positive effect. Are your eyes open yet? Can you see the big picture? Is it possible that you are among the sin shamers of this world? If you answered “Yes” to any of those questions, you can still become the encourager that one needs and allow Gods love to shine through you to once again win the hearts of many and tear down the walls of pain and shame.
